Letter From the Editor

In June, I had the pleasure of attending my third ever Bead & Button Show. I always feel refreshed and reenergized as a jewelry maker after attending a show of this magnitude. Were you there? Write in and tell us what your experience was like, what classes you attended, and perhaps, the artist that changed the way you approach your beading.

I do have to admit that this was the first year since I began attending that I did not take a single stitching class. (I know, I know! But, no worries, I bought plenty of kits from my favorite designer, Jill Wisema of Tapestry Beads. And yes, less than three weeks later, they were completed!) Instead, I took classes that were about metal working, and -- well, I LOVED it! It seems I took those classes just in time. Metal seems to be the hot new medium among jewelry makers!

Let's Play: Did You Know?

Did you know that here at Annie's we have begun producing beading tutorial videos? To find them, just head on over to SimplyBeadsKitClub.com and click on Beading Technique Videos on the left-hand side! Don't see a technique you'd like to learn? Let us know, and we'll fix that!

Finally, I want to encourage you to give us your feedback on our newsletters. Let us know when we talk about something you love or even when there are things you don't like. Also, let us know if we aren't covering your favorite subject. This is your newsletter, and we want to provide content that is interesting to you.

Editor, Simply Beads newsletter

Born to a family of crafters, woodworkers, photographers, artists, bakers and hobbyists, Erica Visocky grew up with her fingers in many crafts. As a youth, Erica excelled in the arts, earning several design awards in journalism.

Erica began beading when she found a kit at a local craft festival. Unhappy with its simple outcome, she took it to a local bead store to learn how to improve the design. Since that first design, Erica has created many original pieces. Her favorite techniques are right-angle weave, silk knotting and netting.

While mostly self-taught, Erica's natural crafting abilities opened up opportunities to teach in local schools and craft stores. She is now the product manager of the Simply Beads Kit-of-the-Month Club and editor of Simply Beads newsletter. Her crafting interests range from beading and oil painting, to baking and interior design.

Erica lives in Indiana with her husband and two young sons. They share a home with two cats and a dog. Like most young families, they have full schedules but try to find time to enjoy the passions they share: trains, the zoo, and of course, family.
