Letter From the Editor
Have you been looking around at the fashion trends lately? Here come the '80s! While they've been back for a year or so, the trends from the 1980s are coming back full swing with neon colors and calico, floral prints. While some of us were glad to have made it through those times with our eyesight, the general public, especially the younger crowds, is really embracing it.
As I shop and go on trend-spotting trips, I've noticed that while the '80s are back in color and pattern, they are still shown in traditional forms. One example is the graduated, multi-strand necklace. This form shows itself to be a versatile, timeless style that is found in all classes of jewelry. Whether made with cultured pearls or neon pink glass beads, the multi-strand necklace is never out of vogue.
We're going to talk about planning and designing multi-strand necklaces, and take the fear out of it. With some tips and pointers, I think you'll find comfort in creating this style of jewelry.
We'll also go back to basics and talk about beading wire. I'll discuss my tips for when and how to use different strand combinations and diameters, and whether you may really need to use two lengths of beading wire, instead of just one.

Erica Visocky
Editor, Simply Beads newsletter
Born to a family of crafters, woodworkers, photographers, artists, bakers and hobbyists, Erica Visocky grew up with her fingers in many crafts. As a youth, Erica excelled in the arts, earning several design awards in journalism.
Erica began beading when she found a kit at a local craft festival. Unhappy with its simple outcome, she took it to a local bead store to learn how to improve the design. Since that first design, Erica has created many original pieces. Her favorite techniques are right-angle weave, silk knotting and netting.
While mostly self-taught, Erica's natural crafting abilities opened up opportunities to teach in local schools and craft stores. She is now the product manager of the Simply Beads Kit-of-the-Month Club and editor of Simply Beads newsletter. Her crafting interests range from beading and oil painting, to baking and interior design.
Erica lives in Indiana with her husband and two young sons. They share a home with two cats and a dog. Like most young families, they have full schedules but try to find time to enjoy the passions they share: trains, the zoo, and of course, family.
