Letter From the Editor

With spring here, and the world around us morphing into its new self, I feel as though this year is going to be a big turn in the road of life for everyone. There are a lot of changes happening in my world both professionally and personally.

As you read in our last issue, I have a new co-editor for the Simply Beads newsletter, Corene Painter. I am very excited to have her on board! Corene and I work together regularly, and I'm glad to now be working closer with her. I know that she will bring you the beading expertise, exciting content and fresh news that you have come to expect from Simply Beads.

Personally, I am having my third baby in September.

Our first article is all about how to incorporate color into your wardrobe and step out of the bland rut we all seem to fall into. I shared my strategy for looking at a closet full of clothes and distinguishing a palette.

We also took a look at Pantone's Color of the Year, Tangerine Tango. Doesn't the name just make you want to dance?! This vibrant color will set the tone for the next year, and I showed you how to incorporate it, even if you aren't an "orange" person.

In our Free Project, I used Swarovski's newest colors in a festive spring piece just in time to match May's flowers. This fun, fringe necklace is easy to create and costs less than $20 to make!

Erica Visocky
Editor, Simply Beads newsletter

Born to a family of crafters, woodworkers, photographers, artists, bakers and hobbyists, Erica Visocky grew up with her fingers in many crafts. As a youth, Erica excelled in the arts, earning several design awards in journalism.

Erica began beading when she found a kit at a local craft festival. Unhappy with its simple outcome, she took it to a local bead store to learn how to improve the design. Since that first design, Erica has created many original pieces. Her favorite techniques are right-angle weave, silk knotting and netting.

While mostly self-taught, Erica's natural crafting abilities opened up opportunities to teach in local schools and craft stores. She is now the product manager of the Simply Beads Kit-of-the-Month Club and editor of Simply Beads newsletter. Her crafting interests range from beading and oil painting, to baking and interior design.

Erica lives in Indiana with her husband and two young sons. They share a home with two cats and a dog. Like most young families, they have full schedules but try to find time to enjoy the passions they share: trains, the zoo, and of course, family.
